FINGERPRINTING and PHOTO ID INFORMATION FOR SPORTS OFFICIALS- (PRICE CHANGE from $99 to $94.25)
REQUIREMENT FOR ALL SPORTS OFFICIALS:
The superintendents of Section VI Member schools in April 2003 unanimously approved the following resolution:
"ALL SPORTS OFFICIALS must be fingerprinted and cleared before working any sports contests in Section VI, effective Sept. 1, 2003"
The Section VI Executive Committee approved a change to the resolution to allow officials to work Section VI contests provided they have submitted their fingerprints to OSPRA and are listed as "clearance pending" on the Section VI website (click here). Athletic Directors and Assignors will refer to this list for eligible officials. Only officials who have been fingerprinted will be eligible to officiate Section VI contests.
Section VI has been advised by their attorneys, Hodgson Russ LLP, that the foregoing is fully in compliance with Project SAVE legislation, applicable to Western New York schools. In addition, written affirmation of the legality of this resolution has been received from Howard Goldsmith and Deborah Marriott, attorneys for OSPRA, Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability, at the State Education Department (518-473-2998)
If you have already been fingerprinted to work in a school district under SAVE legislation click here
OSPRA has informed us (April 2006), that the clearance process takes approximately 16-18 weeks. Section VI strongly recommends that every official and official-in-training, do this ASAP at your local police/sheriff's dept. The required paperwork can be picked up at locations below. Please read further for information on how to get fingerprints and pictures taken.
The official should mail his/her completed fingerprint packet to the Section VI office. Upon receipt of the packet, that official's name will be listed on the Section VI website as Clearance Pending and be allowed to officiate. (from the Main Page click on Officials, then Clearance Status). When full clearance is received from SED, the status will be updated to Cleared. If more than 6 weeks have passed since submitting fingerprints and your status remains as clearance pending, you are advised to investigate the progress of your background check at OSPRA, by calling 518-473-2998 Mon, Wed or Friday or emailing
ospra@mail.nysed.gov. All clearances are issued by the Office of School Personnel Review and Accountability (OSPRA) at SED.|
