The Lackawanna Steelers beat Harrison 22-18 on Sunday November 29, 1998 for their second consecutive Class B state football championship.
Lackawanna opened the scoring with a 59-yard run by junior running back Joe West in the first quarter.
Turner's 6-yard dash in the third tied the score and his two-point conversion put the Steelers up 14-12.
An interception by sophmore cornerback Mel Wilder gave Lackawanna possession on the Huskies 27-yard line. Their final touchdown was scored by West on a 25-yard run made possible by superb blocking by Sireika and Sikorski. West then made the two-point conversion by grabbing a pass tipped by a Harrison linebacker.
Thanks to the pair of two-point conversions that was the margin of victory, and a fake punt in the fourth quarter, Lackawanna was able to hold onto their lead until the final whistle to wrap up the win.
West finished the game with 135 yards in 12 carries and two touchdowns. Turner had 70 yards in 20 carries and is credited with one touchdown.
Harrison's running back Sam Maldonato scored all three of Huskie's TD's and all PAT's were missed.
The Lackawanna Steelers are coached by Bill Moore.
