8.5     Trevor White appointed as Boys Indoor Track Chairman. Nominations for Fall Sport Chair positions               announced. There are no nominations for Assistant Girls Soccer Chair.*

8.10    Boys Soccer: Approved: Art Jaspe as Chairperson, Revised Sportsmanship Policy and 

required use of Post Game Report/Officials Rating Form.

Defeated: Min. of four teams in sectionals regardless of record and addition of a third

official for semi’s and finals.

Girls Soccer: Approved: Revised Sportsmanship Policy and required use of Post Game Report/Officials Rating Form.

Defeated: addition of a third official for semi’s and finals.

Football: Defeated: Use of Section VI Safety Policy for post-season games only.

Boys Lacrosse: Defeated: filling the C bracket with teams below .500.

Changes to Section VI By-Laws Items 7.2.1 and 7.2.6 approved.

9.3.2     Proposed Season Starting Dates for 2000-2001 (attached)

11.3     Football: Approved: Federation 2000 Alignment, Bowl game proposal for Classes AA, A, B and C,         adjustment of pre-season practice schedule to (5-6-4) and reduction of number of players required for a game from 18 to 16.

SECTION VI ATHLETIC COUNCIL

March 15, 2000

 

1.0 CALL TO ORDER/ Introductions

The meeting was called to order by President Pat Slavin at 1:30 PM at the Dock at the Bay Restaurant.

2.0 MINUTES

Motion to accept the minutes of January 19, 2000 as submitted carried. Polka/Connor

 

3.0 TREASURER'S REPORT C.Roesch

Motion to accept report as submitted carried. Ksionzyk/Riccio

3.1    Program Update: MJR is short approximately $2,500 of the required contract payments. R.Black will contact MJR if full amount is not received within two weeks. School ads did not meet the $5,000 difference between this year and last year’s contracts.

3.2    Financial Comparison Report for Fall Sports distributed.

 

4.0 EX.SECRETARY'S REPORT R. Dinse

4.1 Senior All-Star Contests – Reminder that All-Star contests must be held within the season and athletes can participate in only one All-Star Contest. Motion to approve the following contests carried:

4.3        School changes to the Sectional schedule: Sportchairs work diligently to set the schedules and arrange for venues. Requests for last minute changes to meet personal needs will not be honored unless there is an emergency situation.

 

5.0 COMMUNICATIONS R. Dinse

5.1    Lifetime pass application for Judy Otto, Barker will be referred to the Membership Committee for review as indicated on page 31 Section VI by-laws.

5.2    Ad Hoc Committee Championship Proposal. NYSPHSAA requires a sectional response by April 10. Comments: Cross-Country would like the Section to support the consideration of XC (bowling, rifle, skiing also) as "both team and individual" sport. F.Hockey program, which has grown and creates revenue at the state level, will be cut in half. (See attached work sheet indicating effect of proposal on each sport.). Sectional/Intersectional Committee will meet with Sportchairs March 30 to discuss impact and suggestions for revising the proposal.

5.3 NYSPHSAA : Section VI has two state scholar athlete winners for winter; Williamsville North High School Girls Bowling Team, GPA 96.996 and Hamburg High School Girls Gymnastics Team, GPA 95.986. CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH SCHOOLS!

 

6.0    NYSPHSAA - Walter Eaton, Assistant Director – Report attached

Congratulations extended to Section VI State Scholar/Athlete winners (see item 5.3). Other top achievers: Boys Basketball: #2 Iroquois, #3 E.Aurora; Girls Basketball: #2 Clarence; Boys Indoor Track: #3 Frontier; Girls Indoor Track: #3 Hamburg, #4 Frontier; B.Swimming: #3 Orchard Park; Wrestling: #2 Iroquois, #3 Wmsvle N, #4 Eden, #5 Clarence.

Regional Action-on-Target Training will be held at Section VI June 28-29. Recruits to be trained are needed. The State office will advertise this session and help fund attendees from other sections.

8.6    Modified Boys/Girls A.Bradley/P.Boggan

Reminder: A Modified sport is interscholastic and controlled by NYSPHSAA & SED. Extramural sport is an extension of an intramural program, controlled by SED, and athletes cannot compete against modified teams.

8.7 Officials Coordinating T. Cowan

8.7.1    Boys’ Basketball Officials: Sectionals were officiated using the 99-00 assignment standards. Three later round contests were impacted by the Southern Tier boards decision not to work two games in one round. One letter and several phone calls to the section office questioned the assignment rules, however there has been no official reaction from Board 39 or 121.

8.7.2    Contract Negotiations: Reaction to potential negotiation materials is requested. The Officials will select their team March 28. Schedule for negotiations will be set shortly after.

8.7.3    Soccer Officials: Both boys and girls use 2 officials at the regional/state level. Currently 5 sections use 3 at Boys sectional finals. If Section VI approves 3 officials, it will be the catalyst for the state to use 3 for Reg./states. Also, be aware that the number of officials is a contractual issue.

8.7.4    Football officials: Significant majority of schools have indicated a preference for 4 not 5 officials.

8.7.5    State OCF Meeting: To be held on Sunday May 7 in Syracuse. Please advise of specific items to have researched at this level.

8.10.1 Boys Soccer: All soccer issues were addressed by the Committee 2/23/00. Committee recommendations appear in the minutes.

8.10.3    Football:

Motion to apply the Section VI Safety Policy for Cheerleading only to post-season games was defeated. Polka/Riccio

8.10.4 Motion to approve the following changes to the Section VI By-Laws p.34 (suggested changes are underlined) carried unanimously: Polka/Mowery

a) Item 7.2.6 to read "Develop and implement a written process for the assignment of officials for all sectional contests."

b) Item 7.2.1 to read "Select date, site and time of each contest. All schools are required to honor these dates except in the case of an emergency situation."

8.10.5    Boys Lacrosse:

Motion to allow the filling of the C bracket with teams below .500 on a one-year basis with a post-season review of the process was defeated. Dunnigan/Polka

14.1    Swimming Sectionals Suggestion: costs for refreshments in the hospitality rooms be picked up by the Section.

14.2    Returning Financial responsibility for Boys Basketball Pre-Quarters and Quarters to the schools: As stated in AC minutes Sept. 1999: "Finance and Sectional/Intersectional Committees jointly recommend a status quo on financial arrangements for pre-quarters and quarters in boys basketball with a yearly review and report. They will monitor Section revenues for a period of three years at which point further recommendations may be made." Item referred to the Finance Committee.
