4.0 Requests for Senior All-Star Contests, Outside Agencies and Combining Schools approved.

4.4 Athletic Council meeting dates 2000-2001 approved: Sept. 20, Nov.15, Jan.17, Mar.21, May16.

5.1 Early soccer start (Aug.17) approved for schools that play Section 5 schools.

 

5.2         Bill Davenport’s resignation as Wrestling Chairman accepted.

6.0         Lloyd Mott, Assistant Director NYSPHSAA reports.

8.5.2     Pat Slavin approved as Section VI Principals’ Rep.

8.5.3     Fall Sportchairs appointed.

8.5.4     Wrestling Sportchair to be appointed by post card ballot*.

8.10.1     Boys Lacrosse: Waiver of the .500 for Class C playoffs granted for 2000 season only.

8.10.2     Football: Section VI Safety Policy for cheerleaders to apply for sectional playoffs only; Home school rule to apply for regular season play.

8.10.3     Ice Hockey: Participation in state competition approved.

14.1     Nominations are needed for Section VI President-Elect**.

1.0 CALL TO ORDER/ Introductions

The meeting was called to order by President Pat Slavin at 1:30 PM at the Dock at the Bay Restaurant.

 

2.0 MINUTES

Motion to receive the minutes of March 15, 2000 as submitted CARRIED. Polka/ Ksionzyk

 

3.0 TREASURER'S REPORT C.Roesch

Motion to accept report as submitted CARRIED. Nuffer/Polka

3.1    Program Update: MJR has made final payment as per contract.

3.2    Financial Comparison Report for Winter Sports distributed.

 

4.0 EX.SECRETARY'S REPORT R. Dinse

  • Baseball: 6/13/00 at St. Bonaventure, Co-Sponsor Olean HS
  • Softball: 6/16/00 at Canisius College, Co-Sponsor N.Tonawanda and NFL, pending receipt of insurance

4.4 Motion to approve September 20, November 15, 2000 and January 17, March 21, May 16, 2001 as Athletic Council meeting dates for 2000-2001 CARRIED. Nuffer/Wiggers

4.5 Motion to grant a waiver of the required 4 meet minimum for participation in track sectionals for a Lockport athlete for medical reasons CARRIED. Ksionzyk/Polka

Reminder that insufficient meets due to medical reasons requires a waiver from the Athletic Council for participation in sectionals.

 

5.0 COMMUNICATIONS R. Dinse

Motion to grant an early start (August 17) for Boys and Girls Soccer due to tournaments scheduled with Section 5, to the NO League and other schools that may play Section V CARRIED. Polka/Riccio

Bill Davenport has submitted his resignation as Sectional Wrestling Chairman due to upcoming retirement.

Motion to accept Mr. Davenport’s resignation with extreme regret CARRIED. Wiggers/Lutz

 

6.0    NYSPHSAA - Lloyd Mott, Assistant Director – Report attached

6.1Congratulations to Section VI schools receiving New York Good Sports Awards for their model programs: Holland Central and East Aurora High School will receive the New York Good Sports Certificate, a League Award. In addition, East Aurora High School will receive the Section Plaque for this achievement.

6.2    A Girls Lacrosse State Chairman is needed.

Regional Action-on-Target Training will be held at Section VI June 28-29at Daemen College. Participation is encouraged. Call the Section VI office to register.

Amended Motion: to vote by post card ballot pending discussion with the nominees regarding co-chairing the position. Vote to be completed by June 1 CARRIED. Black/Wachter

8.7 Officials Coordinating T. Cowan

Official’s Contract Negotiations: Initial proposals are being exchanged. A third meeting is scheduled for June 7, 2000. Assigning procedures and responsibilities will be addressed.

8.9 Safety L. Bryant

In terms of the discussion concerning cheerleading in football, the Safety Committee reminded the Athletic Council that the Safety Policy for Cheerleading adopted 1/99 (see attached) should be utilized at all sectional playoffs.

8.10 Sectional/Intersectional B. Dinse Report received

      • Boys Lacrosse: Waiver of the .500 rule for Class C playoffs for one year. - J.Faller
      • Discussion: Emerging sport, unique situation, only 5 schools in class C (not in a league and subject to unfair scheduling against A & B schools).

        Motion: to allow the filling of the C bracket with teams below .500 for the 2000 season only, with a post-season review of the process to be presented by the Sportchair CARRIED

      • Safety Policy regarding Cheerleading in Football
      • Motion: Football cheerleaders will be ground bound for Sectional playoffs, and home-school rules shall govern regular season play. League guidelines may be more restrictive. Stedman/Dunnigan

        Amended motion: Football cheerleaders will follow Section VI Safety Policy (attached) for Sectional playoffs only, and home-school rules shall govern regular season play. League guidelines may be more restrictive CARRIED Black/Wachter

      • Ice Hockey participation in State competition.

Motion to support Ice Hockey participation in state competition provided the Ice Hockey Committee submits the procedure to be used to determine qualification for state competition CARRIED. Nuffer/Wachter

The committee has developed a process to gain recognition and awareness with the superintendents.

Track and Softball State competition will be held on Long Island in 2001 increasing costs to the Section.

8.14 Programs P.Boggan

Colonial Publishing will not be submitting a bid. MJR submitted a verbal bid after the original deadline, with a written proposal to follow. D.Marky’s sons are interested in submitting a bid. The deadline was extended to Wed. May 24 to allow time for the two bids to be submitted in writing.

Motion: to empower the Executive Committee to approve one of the bids in the best interest of the Section CARRIED. Nuffer/Wiggers

Ad Hoc Committee proposal on Championships addressed. Feedback is needed by July for the August meeting. Suggestion: Leave as is, giving the Championship Advisory Committee guidelines for handling requests for changes to classifications in the future.
