Springville Griffith Institute Boys Soccer Team - GPA 95.523

Sweet Home Central High School Girls Volleyball Team - GPA 96.159.

The 2000 Iroquois Varsity Football Team proved this season that they could not only perform on the field but also in the classroom. The Chiefs won the "A" Bowl Championship and finished with a record of 7 – 3 while breaking 30 school records! Equally impressive was the team’s accomplishment in the classroom. Twenty members of the 38 – man roster had a 90 or above average and the top 12 had a State-high GPA of 95.856 (1^st out of 132 schools)! The 2000 Football season truly was successful, both on the field and in the classroom!

Iroquois Wrestling- State Champion with a team GPA of 95.289

The Iroquois Central School Varsity Boys Basketball Team was declared Scholar/Athlete State Champion for the Winter Season 2000 – 2001 with a team Grade Point Average of 96.185. The following players, with their averages, helped attain this high honor: Brian Argauer, 11, 96; Brian Carey, 12, 95.570; Brian Faith, 12, 95.170; John Jimenez, 11, 97.430; David Monte, 11, 97.630; Scott Reilly, 11, 94.500; Tom Kolarczyk, 9, 97; John Huetter, 9, 92.290;m Jon Jarnot, 11, 91.830

The Iroquois Central School Varsity Wrestling Team was declared Scholar/Athlete State Champion for the Winter Season 2000 – 2001 with a team Grade Point Average of 95.288. Congratulations to the boys’ basketball team, the wrestling team and the other nineteen (19) Iroquois varsity teams that have qualified for the Scholar/Athlete Program during the 2000 – 2001 school year with a 90% or above GPA.

Frontier Boys Track - State Champion with a team GPA of 97.636

Pioneer Golf - State Champion with a team GPA of 96.980

Medina Boys Lacrosse - State Champion with a team GPA of 94.710

Frontier Central’s Boys Outdoor Track team has been named New York State Scholar Athlete Champions. During a meeting of the Frontier Board of Education, the team was presented with a certificate and State Championship banner by Section VI Executive Secretary Robert Dinse who stated, "This is a most prestigious accomplishment, as over 200 teams qualified statewide, with Frontier Central #1!" The Board of Education also presented the team with a special commendation for their accomplishment. Director of Athletics - Larry Bryant, noted that the team competed and won in classroom competition as well as on the track, where they were the top team in Western New York and the ECIC Division I Champions.

The qualifying team members are: Greg Wojtasczyk, James Miller, Brian Pack, Derek Ferguson, Jeff Fiut, Steve Carden, Steve Palmer, Daniel Ver, Will Nowadly, Josh Zimmerman, Mike Kania and Jeremy Cole. The team is coached by James Zubler.

Pioneer High School’s golf team was tops in New York’s Scholar/Athlete program, with a cumulative scholastic average of 96.980. It was the first time a team from Pioneer received this statewide honor. This year, over 1,000 athletes from 146 schools across New York were nominated in the golf category.

In golf, coaches nominate seven players from their roster to have their scholastic averages considered for the Scholar/Athlete award. On the Pioneer golf squad, the selected players included juniors Kyle Burmeister,

Nicholas Murphy and Erik LeFauve, sophomore Seth Jerge, 8th graders Brennan Payne and Thomas Walker, and 7th grader Kyle Armstrong. Other members of the golf team were Joshua Angrignon, Matthew Baker, Phillip Biggie, Lance Claypool, Kyle Holts, Collin Krehbiel, John Nelson, Doug Noel, Brandon Phetteplace, Adam Reisdorf, Justin Roblee, Josh Watkins, Kyle Armstrong and David Van Splunder.

"It is indeed an honor for our school to have won such a prestigious award," said Max Payne, Pioneer golf coach. "Of the 700 public schools in New York, it is very gratifying to be the number one academic golf team.

All of the credit must go to the parents, teachers, administrators and to these fine young men themselves."

"Pioneer can be proud of these student-athletes because of their stellar academic and athletic achievement" said Pioneer athletic director James Graczyk.
